Add remote server to Munin monitoring

If you have an existing Munin monitoring server, you can add remote servers to this configuration by following these simple instructions:

On the remote server install the munin-node package:

sudo apt-get install munin-node

Now edit the config file for the munin-node service

sudo nano /etc/munin/munin-node.conf

Now you need to configure an allowed monitoring server:

Replace

allow ^127\.0\.0\.1$

With the IP address of your monitoring server eg.

allow ^192\.168\.10\.100$

Now restart the Munin-Node service

sudo /etc/init.d/munin-node restart

On monitoring server we need to add the node to munin-conf.d directory, create a new file in this directory named after your remote host.

sudo nano /etc/munin/munin-conf.d/nodeserver

Add the config to this file

 [nodeserver.domain.com]
 address 192.168.10.101
 use_node_name yes

Now restart the Munin-Node service

sudo /etc/init.d/munin-node restart

If you browse to the monitoring server url, you should now see you remote server (this may take a few minutes to be discovered.
